About to head off to SFO to check-in, drink a bloody mary (it's a personal tradition before boarding), and board a plane that will take me to warmer climates in a far-away land.
Bay Area, I will see you when I return on January 1st, 2010. In the meantime, I'll be in touch via the intarwebs, both on Flickr and http://yvening.com.

Halloween Weekend, 2009
Dave was in town during Halloween weekend. When I told him my plan of not carrying a camera with me to any shindig we went to, he wasn't having it. As a response, he bought one of those Kodak "Single Use" film cameras...nevermind the fact that I protested. Heavily.
The majority of the images were "eh", but that's the result of me not taking the camera seriously. But the ones that were good...were pretty damn good for a single-use camera.
-Glide Memorial and Squat & Gobble with Anita, followed by the Samurai exhibit with Anita and JB
-Stacey and Robert finally meeting each other/dinner at China Village in Albany/good times at the Albatross
-Wedding party in Carmel Valley
-Catching up over drinks with Maryam at Pican
-Saturday afternoon/evening in North Beach with Alan, John, Jose, and Chris
-Dave being in town for a couple of weekends
-Fraenkel, Cameraworks, SFMoma, Cafe Bastille, Shooting Gallery, Olive Bar - all on one Saturday.
-New owner of a Mamiya RB67.
-Stacey threatening me with ice cream cupcakes.
-Agitation and efflorescence galore, resulting in swell photographs
This past weekend I was fortunate to have the following: a completely empty house, no work, and no plans. It was the perfect opportunity to do the things that I've been meaning to do, like deep cleaning the house, organizing books that have been piling up, and hanging frames that have long been leaning against walls and nightstands.
Charlene left her beloved Oakland for a new life in Los Angeles. Although I'm saddened to no longer have her presence here, I'm excited for what lies ahead for her.
Tuesday was this: agitating black and white film in my laundry room that I converted into a little makeshift darkroom. Stopping by Looking Glass for prints, film drop-off, and conversing with the lovely Anita and Santi. Reading under a tree in the sun. Touching base with Charlie, for every conversation and interaction with her is far more precious as she prepares for the big move. Drinks and darts at The Albatross with two old college friends.
Wednesday was this: Cupcakes from Love at First Bite...lemon, red velvet, and matcha green tea. Eating Bakesale Betty's buttermilk fried chicken sandwiches under the sun at the ghetto palace. Drank Guinness while babysitting.
The past two days of rest have been pretty great. Now its back to work - that ol' drag.
"A child in the dark, gripped with fear, comforts himself by singing under his breath. He walks and halts to his song. Lost, he takes shelter, or orients himself with his little song as best he can. The song is like a rough sketch of a calming and stabilizing, calm and stable, center in the heart of chaos. Perhaps the child skips as he sings, hastens or slows his pace. But the song itself is already a skip: it jumps from chaos to the beginnings of order in chaos and is in danger of breaking apart at any moment..."
It all started with a dare...and ended with me swallowing a "fertilized duck (or chicken) egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside" (read more about the delicacy here).
